UPDATE ON BILL HF340- Removing DA registration
On Tuesday a few of us were present at the subcommittee meeting with our lobbyist. Along with some other organization opposing this bill. The sub committee did not go in our favor.
This bill was suggested to legislation from the IDA (Iowa Dental Association).
They believe this bill resolves the staffing shortage of Dental Assistants. They really believe this will resolve the issue of the DA shortage and that the registration process detours individuals from perusing a career Dental Assisting.

I would advise everyone to talk to as many people as you know. Encourage them to write to the legislators and share how to do that ( see our previous post or message us and we can send the information)
This is bill is a huge public safety concern. So many things can go wrong without proper training in infection control, radiography, hazardous waste, HIPAA, adult and child abuse, medical emergencies. Not to mention diminishing our career. We know how valuable a Dental Assistants knowledge is in the office and how much a properly trained DA does in the office.
There are over 4,000 RDA's Currently and now is our time to use our voices. We need to stand up for ourselves, our profession and most of all of the safety of our patients. WE HAVE TO FIGHT THIS FIGHT!!!
How can you help?
-Tell everyone you know what's going on and encourage them to send emails or write legislators expressing their concerns ( see previous post for how to do that)
-Talk to your Dentist!! I know this was brought forward by the IDA but I do not believe that all Dentists think it is a good idea. If they do not agree, Please encourage them to express this to legislators.
As your association we are doing everything we can to fight for the Dental Assistants of Iowa.
